Why Technoland, vs. a chain store

Steve repairs every device personally. There's no front desk, no intake form, no "let me check with my supervisor." You talk to the person fixing your computer. The same person who started doing this in 1988.

We don't upsell. If your laptop isn't worth repairing, we'll tell you. If your hard drive needs a clean room, we'll send you to a specialist instead of taking your money. The diagnostic is $75 and it's applied to the repair — so when we say "don't fix it," we're talking ourselves out of work.

Labor is warranted for 30 days. The parts warranty depends on where the parts came from — new OEM, aftermarket, used or refurbished, and customer-supplied parts each carry different terms. The terms that apply to your specific repair are printed on your estimate and on your invoice.

Most virus and malware removals are same-day. Screen replacements and Mac repairs typically take 1 to 3 business days. Data recovery runs 1 to 5 business days. Component-level circuit board work ranges from a single day to several weeks, depending on parts. Turnaround depends on parts availability and how severe the fault turns out to be once Steve opens the machine.

Yes. Technoland installs customer-supplied parts at the standard labor rate with no markup, which most shops in the Glendale area decline to do. Parts you supply carry no parts warranty from us, since we did not source them, but the labor is still warranted for 30 days.

No. Technoland is a walk-in bench repair shop only — we do not offer managed IT services, ongoing IT support contracts, computer consulting, network or Wi-Fi setup, on-site visits, mail-in repair, or phone repair, and we do not repair printers. What we do is diagnose and fix computers, MacBooks, iPads, and tablets you bring to the shop at 320 N Verdugo Rd Ste 200, Glendale, CA 91206. I have repaired computers at this bench in Glendale since 1988 — 38 years. I do every diagnostic and every repair myself: there are no other technicians here, and nothing gets sent out. In my experience most machines that arrive “dead” have one failed component rather than a failed computer, and when a repair genuinely is not worth the money, I say so instead of quoting it.
