Bring Your Own Parts in Glendale, CA

Typical price · Same labor rate · no parts markup

Most computer repair shops won't install parts you bring in.

We will. The trade-off is straightforward: you save the parts markup, and you take on all the risk. There's no warranty on the part you brought, and no warranty on the labor we perform to install it. If the part is bad, the install fails, or the device stops working a week later, we don't cover any of it. We still charge our standard labor rate. We tell you all of this before we touch a screwdriver.

Honest scope

What we don't do

No warranty. Not on the part. Not on the labor. Not implicit, not negotiable. You sign an initialed disclosure at intake.

No counterfeit or recalled parts. If we identify the part as counterfeit, recalled, or visibly damaged, we won't install it and we'll explain why. The diagnostic fee still applies.

No proprietary or paired components without verification. Some parts (laptop batteries, MacBook screens, certain SSDs) need to be paired or firmware-flashed to work with the device. We'll tell you upfront if your part requires that and whether we can do it.

No bench-time without diagnostic. We strongly recommend a $75 diagnostic before BYOP installs — we want to be sure the part you're bringing actually fixes what's wrong with the device. Skip the diagnostic at your own risk.

Why Technoland

Where we're different

  • 01

We don't mark up parts at all under BYOP. The part is yours; we just install it.

  • 02

We tell you upfront what's compatible and what isn't, before you order online.

  • 03

If we install a customer-supplied part and it fails the same day on our bench, we'll diagnose the failure and refund the labor — but only if it fails on our bench, not at home.

  • 04

No upsell. If we think your repair would be better served by an OEM part, we'll say so. Then it's your call.

I bought my own SSD off Amazon — Technoland was the only shop in town that would install it without trying to upsell me on their own. Took an hour, $90 labor, done.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Three reasons. One: parts markup is the actual margin on most repairs. Two: liability — if a customer-supplied part is bad, the customer often blames the shop. Three: counterfeit parts are common online, and shops don't want to install fakes. We charge our standard labor rate, document the disclosure with initials at intake, and refuse to install obvious counterfeits.

We'll tell you it doesn't work and charge the labor for the install attempt. You return the part to wherever you bought it. We won't replace it, refund it, or warranty its replacement. This is the central trade-off of BYOP.

We work carefully and follow proper procedure. If we damage your device through demonstrable negligence on our part, we'll address it. But if a customer-supplied part shorts out other components, that's not on us — it's on the part. The intake disclosure is explicit about this.

No. If we source the part, we charge our standard parts pricing — which includes shipping, sourcing time, and the manufacturer/distributor warranty. BYOP exists because some customers want to skip that markup and accept the trade-off. Both options are honest; pick the one that fits your situation.

If you book a $75 diagnostic first, yes — we'll tell you exactly what part to order, including specific model numbers if relevant. The diagnostic is applied to the install labor if you proceed. We'd rather you order the right part once than the wrong part three times.

Yes. RAM, SSD, and GPU swaps are usually low-risk because they're standardized and easy to diagnose. Laptop batteries, MacBook screens, and motherboard-paired components are higher-risk because of pairing, firmware, and counterfeits. We'll flag the risk level before you commit.
