# Windows 10 End of Life: Why You Need to Upgrade Now
Windows 10 reaches its end of support in October 2025. After that date, Microsoft will stop providing security updates, leaving your computer vulnerable to new threats.
What Does End of Life Mean?
When an operating system reaches end of life, it no longer receives security patches. This means any new vulnerabilities discovered after that date won't be fixed, making your computer an easy target for hackers and malware.
Your Options
You have a few choices: upgrade to Windows 11 (if your hardware supports it), buy a new PC with Windows 11 pre-installed, or switch to an alternative like Linux.
Can My Computer Run Windows 11?
Not all computers can run Windows 11. It requires a TPM 2.0 chip, Secure Boot, and a relatively modern processor. If your PC is more than 5-6 years old, it likely won't qualify.
