# RAM Prices in 2026: What You Need to Know

RAM prices fluctuate, but right now is a good time to upgrade. Here's what you need to know about RAM in 2026.

How Much RAM Do You Need?

For basic use (web browsing, email, Office): 8GB is the minimum, 16GB is comfortable. For gaming or creative work: 16GB minimum, 32GB recommended.

DDR4 vs DDR5

DDR5 is the current standard for new builds, but DDR4 is still relevant for upgrades to existing computers. Check what your motherboard supports before buying.

Current Pricing

16GB DDR4 runs about $30-$50. 32GB DDR4 is $50-$80. DDR5 costs a bit more but prices have come down significantly.

Is More RAM Worth It?

If your computer feels slow and you have 4-8GB of RAM, upgrading to 16GB will make a noticeable difference. It's one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make.
